Dear Reader!,
Welcome to May....I think.
If you live near me, it's hardly felt like May weather. I heard on the radio earlier this week that my city has been running an average of 10-12 degrees (farenheit) colder than average temps for this time of year. Yuck. But we've had a few nice days so hope is in the air.
For some reason May seems to inspire hope in people - what are you hoping for this month? I always get the itch to spring clean and so that has begun. PLUS we built a shed - with approximately 900 bazillion steps and pieces. There were many swear words uttered - but it's all done and mostly correctly. I'm looking forward to getting the yard looking beautiful again.
New Blog - Brain Buffering: How To Build Transition Time Into A Busy ADHD Day
Let me be real for a moment here - the amount of times I've said to myself, "Just get started"....and then absolutely did not start is astounding. Or maybe I moved to the next thing but my brain is still firmly stuck on whatever I was doing last.
I need to write an email and just stare at the blank screen. I sit down to relax and suddenly am replayiing a conversation from yesterday. I walk into the kitchen and stand there like I forgot how being human works.
For a long time I thought this meant I wasn't motivated enough, or I needed more discipline, or I hadn't found the right notebook, or I just had to try hard and push through. Honestly, I still fall into this thinking sometimes.
But that's not what's actually happening.
In many cases, it's a transition problem. Moving from one task to another. ADHD brains often don't do transitions very well without extra support.

How to Let Yourself Be Seen (In Small, Manageable Ways)
.
🌻Start with one safe person
Pick someone who already feels mostly safe—not perfect, just not harmful—and share one slightly-more-honest thing than usual.
🌻Share a preference out loud
“I’d rather go earlier.” “I don’t love that place.” Preferences are a gentle entry point into visibility.
🌻Keep something you like, even if no one else gets it
Wear the thing. Listen to the music. Post the meme. Try the new hobby. Let your taste exist without explaining it.
🌻Share something neutral-but-real
You don’t have to jump to deep vulnerability. Try: “I’ve been really into ___ lately.” “I’ve been struggling with focus this week.”.
🌻Let your identity show in low-risk ways
Pronouns in bio. A subtle flag. Fun socks. A playlist. Tiny signals count.
🌻Upgrade one sentence by 10% Instead of “I’m fine,” try “I’m a little overwhelmed today.” You don’t need to tell the whole story—just nudge the truth forward.

That's it for today my friend.
Mother's Day is this weekend - I hope that it's a beautiful day for all moms, grandmoms, stepmoms, moms who've lost children, moms who are missing children, favorite aunties, foster moms, children missing their mom's, and all other mom-like figures. You are a beautiful and amazing soul.
If Mother's Day is difficult for you - for whatever the reason, please know that I'm holding space for you, too, on Sunday. You are seen and loved.
No matter who you are or what title(s) you carry - you deserve to do something nice for yourself this weekend. Big or small, something just for you.
