Dear Reader,
I hope that you are having the most amazing summer. If you aren't, what is something you can do that would bring you even 10% closer to amazing?
Here's a preview of my guest appearance on a podcast called Living with Positivity with Dan. He's a newer podcaster and I enjoyed talking with him about my journey with ADHD and his question, "What is normal?" Check out the video below for a sneak peak.
If you liked the sneak peek and want the full episode, you can find it on Spotify HERE.
New Blog: Scripts For Asking For Help Without Overexplaining
For many of us, asking for help feels incredibly uncomfortable. We have spent years and years feeling like we need to justify our needs, prove we are struggling “enough”, or provide detailed explanations before we can ask for support. The burden of attempting to not be misunderstood is exhausting.
Sometimes we overexplain because we are afraid people won’t believe us. Sometimes we do it to attempt to prevent being judged. Sometimes we are trying to make sure we don’t come across as lazy, difficult, too much, or irresponsible.
Luckily, most requests don’t actually require a five-minute backstory.
You can ask for help without sharing every detail.
Here are a few scripts that you can borrow, modify or make your own. The more you use them, the easier they become.
Low-Energy Summer Tips for Burned-Out ADHD Parents
- Pick one priority for the day instead of trying to do everything.
- Say yes to frozen pizza, paper plates, or grocery pickup if they make life easier.
- Sit outside while your kids play instead of feeling like you have to entertain them.
- Build "everyone does their own thing" time into the day.
- Choose activities that recharge you, too.
- Keep a list of low-energy activities for the days your brain and body are done.
- Remember that boredom isn't an emergency you have to solve.
- Cancel plans that are creating more stress than joy.
- Give yourself permission to rest even if your to-do list isn't finished.
- Focus on connection more than creating picture-perfect summer memories.
If you only use one of these ideas this week, that's enough. Summer doesn't have to be extraordinary to be meaningful. Your family doesn't need perfection—they need a nervous system that's allowed to breathe.
Gentle Reflection Question
If your energy were a budget instead of an unlimited resource, what would you spend it on?

What's Kat Up To?
That's it for me this week my friend. I'm going to close out and take with me today's reflection question. I am slowly learning to budget my energy - and to include my own needs in that budget.
Have a wonderful weekend - you deserve it!
