Discover Simple ADHD Secrets

Dear Reader!,

I'm struggling to believe this is the last newsletter of June already.

How have you been spending the start of your summer?

Here are some photos showing how we are spending ours.

Izzy - our brown and white Cavvy - is travelling and has been in Texas and Colorado recently - below she's in CO. Biscuit, or brown Cavvy - has been enjoying basking in the sun in our yard, and getting to meet other dogs in the neighborhood, at the park - or at a Cavvy meet-up.

Meanwhile the adults who aren't traveling are busy doing fun things like gardening these beautiful roses my partner takes care of and having fun with crafts like these necklace pendants I've been making.

Make sure you take time to smell the roses, get into nature, and be creative!

Biscuit, a brown cavvy - smiles and he lounges in the grass in front of some beautiful roses in our yard.
Biscuit, a brown cavvy - meets another little cavvy who is black and white and brown - they sniff each other while another cavvy sneaks up from behind.

New Blog: The Most Effective ADHD Supports Are Usually The Least Fancy

If you hang out in ADHD spaces, it can feel like everyone always has a new system, app, planner, or color-coded life changing solution that promises to finally make everything click. And many of those tools are genuinely very helpful.

But I want to tell you something that many of us ADHD humans need to hear: The most effective ADHD supports are usually the least exciting ones.

The most effective tool is one you will use. They are often simple. Sometimes they are boring and repetitive.

And because they aren't shiny new and interesting, we can overlook them while searching for something "better."

I worked with a lot of ADHD clients over the years, and very rarely has the breakthrough been a complicated system.

I've also spent many years trying to find the perfect solutions for my own ADHD gremlins.

Most often what works is something surprisingly small.

Summer Survival Tips for ADHD Families

Summer can be an amazing time to connect with our kids. It can also be very, very challenging. Here's a few quick tips to keep in mind!

  • Keep a few anchor routines
  • Use visual reminders.
  • Plan for low-energy days.
  • Keep snacks accessible.
  • Let kids help create the plan.
  • Don’t overschedule every week.
  • Remember that boredom isn’t an emergency.
  • Focus on connection over productivity.
  • Prepare for changes in sleep. Aim for flexibility without letting sleep disappear entirely.
  • Create a β€œwhen things go sideways” plan. Have a few go-to regulation tools ready: a walk, water play, music, movement, a favorite comfort activity, or quiet space.

What fun things are you looking forward to this summer?
